Crown Colony of Spies

The Cold War isn’t thawing; it is burning with a deadly heat. Communism isn’t sleeping; it is, as always, plotting, scheming, working, fighting.

Richard Nixon, Vice President of the United States

July 24, 1959

Win Golding is a fading star CIA officer stationed in Hong Kong in the late 1950s. China is considered the biggest threat to US national security, and Hong Kong is the biggest CIA station in the world. Having grown up in China, and having excellent language skills, expectations of Win are high, yet he fails to deliver, and is often at odds with his station chief. As he struggles to find success with his own side projects and juggle internal politics, international events escalate and he gets increasingly marginalized. Friends become foes, and threats of world war loom large. Meanwhile, Win’s teenage niece begins her own adventures that ultimately both help and hinder Win, and put several lives in danger. As Win gets desperate, he must assemble an unlikely set of operatives to deliver key intelligence on China, and avert a nuclear disaster.
